Dear Brantner Families,
This past week was packed with opportunities to connect and continue to grow together. Monday night’s board meeting was filled with celebration of a number awards given to West Clermont School District teachers from the state level as well as a welcoming of our new district treasurer, Kelly Sininger. Tuesday evening was our first PTO meeting. We had a number of parents join us for the meeting to hear about our fifth grader’s upcoming adventures at Camp Kern and to discuss our year ahead. Thank you to all who came! If you were not able to make it to the meeting, please look for ways to get involved soon as we begin to send out requests for our annual Fall Festival, 10/26 and information about our Fall Sale that kicks off on 9/28!!
First grade parents came together on Thursday evening to learn about the first grade curriculum and ways to support their first graders at home with early literacy and math skills. One BIG take-away is the importance of reading with your child and talking about what you read together! Thank you to our first grade team for bringing us together!
During the school day, we are connecting as well! Our teachers spent time on Tuesday reviewing student data to help guide small group instruction during our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) time that will begin on 9/21. Your child may come home to share that they got to work with a new teacher as we break into smaller groups to focus in on literacy instructional needs for 30 minutes a day that will be specific to your child’s reading needs.
While the teachers were digging into data, Mrs. Parker and I were talking with your students about bus safety. Here is the presentation we reviewed while talking with your child in case you would like to review it as well. While we know that some students do not ride the bus daily, all students will potentially ride one for a field trip and so it is important we are all aware of the expectations and how we can be respectful, responsible, and safe on the bus.
Therapy Dogs are coming to Brantner!
We are excited to welcome back two licensed therapy dogs at Brantner Elementary who will be spending time with our second graders every other week, starting this Friday, 9/21. We first met Kathy and Anne, the dog owners and trainers, when we introduced the book, Wish, in the spring. Their furry friends shared their talents with us in quite an exciting show that our students loved.
They also joined us for our two summer reading events so many have had the opportunity to get to know them.
In alignment with West Clermont Board Policy, please know that they are joining us throughout the school year in our professional learning space where students will spend time reading with them. There are many benefits therapy dogs bring to a school setting, here is a quick article that shares some of them. If your child is in second grade and is allergic to dogs or you do not wish for them to work with the therapy dogs, simply let your teacher know with a note, email, or phone call.
The West Clermont School District Student Handbook
Please make note of the West Clermont Student Handbook. This includes our district, building, and board policies as well as key contact information and insight to many of your potential questions. It is also located on our district and building websites for easy access.
