Dear Brantner Families,

In talking with your child, have you ever been like, “IDK what IDR is at school?” Your child may talk about their, “IDR,” time at school as it has become an important part of our literacy instruction on a daily basis for all students, K - 5.  Individualized Daily Reading (IDR) is an opportunity for all students to read independently for a sustained amount of time with a book that is at their reading level. While students read independently, our teachers conference with individual students about their reading to check for comprehension and to make certain that they are engaging in the text.

With the wrap up of our book sale this past week, we hope that our students enjoy their purchases at home and school. Thank you for participating in this opportunity to get books into our students’ hands and homes. Be sure to ask your child, “What book are your reading during your IDR time? What is it about? Tell me about the characters in the book? Where does the story take place?"  We encourage ALL students to read for at least 15 - 30 minutes a day at home as well and for you to engage in conversation about their books daily!

Look closely and you will find Mrs. Stevens meeting with one of her students while the rest of the class engages in, “IDR,” time.  

Below are two pictures of, “IDR,” time in Ms. Acomb’s class where you can find her at the back table conferencing with one student and students around the room reading too from earlier in the year. 

Below are students in Mrs. Everett's third grade class using their flexible seating to enjoy a good book while she meets individually with students, recording their progress and notes to continue to guide their growth in reading. 

  

 

Fifth graders in Ms. Miller's language arts class are obviously digging into good books while she conferences with a student. You can see why, "IDR," time is a favorite time of day for all! 

 

Parking Lot and Parent Drop Off

As the weather gets colder, we want to remind all parents to continue to follow procedures for student drop off and pick up. If your child is in preschool, we ask that you park in the parking spots that wrap around our front patio with benches and walk your child to the designated meeting spot for their class. We encourage you to tag team in watching little ones who might still be in the car so that you don’t have to get them out in the cold but also don’t leave them in an unattended running car. Please stay in the car line too until you reach a spot instead of going around as there is plenty of time in the morning and even one car in the wrong place can cause a lot of challenges for all. 

ALL other students, K - 5, are expected to remain in their car and in the car line as this will help with overall traffic flow. We have a tight parking lot and so we need to reserve our few open spots for our preschool families. If your child is in our car line, they will not be marked tardy if we are running longer than usual, and we will ensure they get into the building as quickly as possible, and to breakfast if needed. We are keeping four spots open in the front of our school for visitors throughout the day but the front circle is not to be used by cars at all for the morning drop off. Thank you for your help and patience!

 

Kindergarten Parents

Our Kindergartners are putting on a Thanksgiving ABCs Play on Tuesday, November 20 at 2:00.  We hope our kindergarten parents can join us for this performance. Siblings of our kindergartners will be welcome to attend as well.  If you choose to sign your child(ren) out after the performance, you will need to sign them out in the office as usual.

PTO Annual Food Drive - Change of Dates, Monday, 11/20 - Friday, 11/30

Your child has a red flyer with information about our annual food drive and we encourage all to donate one item toward making food baskets for our Brantner families. If you would like to received one of the food baskets in December, please contact Mrs. Courtney, courtney_l@my.westcler.org, or Mrs. Basler at 513-943-6400.  We will be hosting Sundaes at lunch on Friday, November 30, to say thank  you to the students for their service in providing for others for the holidays.

 

Speaking of Holidays… You are invited to join A West Clermont Thanksgiving Feast

The Wolf Pack Pantry is hosting a Thanksgiving Feast for families on Wednesday, November 21st, from 5:00pm - 7:30pm.  Please let us know if you would like to attend as this is a ticketed, free event, but an RSVP is required.  You can contact Mrs. Basler in our front office to let her know how many will attend, basler_a@westcler.org, or 513-943-6400.

 

Please consider helping to make this a warm and enjoyable holiday for all community members by making a donation to the dinner. Any amount is greatly appreciated. $25 will feed two and $50 will feed a family of four. All donations received will be matched by our generous partners at General Electric! 

Last year, your generosity helped nearly 100 families totaling over 200 people. Please consider helping our West Clermont family again.

PTO Santa Shop

Our PTO needs someone to coordinate our annual Santa Shop. If you are interested in helping to  coordinate this event, please email Lisa Courtney, courtney_l@my.westcler.org. The coordination of the Santa Shop includes creating a flyer, deciding on what we will sell and organizing what will be included in the shop, finding volunteers to work the shop, and wrapping up the sale when it is finished.  If we do not have a coordinator by Friday, November 30, unfortunately, this event will need to be cancelled.

 

Flu Shots

Need a flu shot? The Wolves Wellness School Based Health Center is currently offering flu vaccines. To schedule an appointment for your child or yourself, please contact the center at 513-732-5082. Most insurances accepted.
