Schoology vs. Progress Book
There has been some confusion among parents on Schoology vs. Progress Book – please help us clarify through your weekly communication with parents!
Progress book is a data management system. It should be used by parents only for report cards at the end of the quarter. WCMS will use it to track absences, tardies, and other student data.
Schoology is a learning management system. This is what parents would be using on a daily or weekly basis to check their children’s grades and activities during school.
Teachers should be putting grades into Schoology weekly. Then we will pass the grades over to progress book as needed.
Chromebook insurance will cost $30 for the full year and covers one incident of breakage. Chromebook insurance purchased BEFORE 9/22 will be retroactive back to 8/30. Meaning if a student breaks his chrome book on the 15th, and the parent buys insurance on the 20th. The insurance will cover the break. After the 22nd, insurance will not kick in until 1 week after the payment. For example if a parent buys insurance on the 23rd and the student breaks a chrome book on the 24th. It is NOT covered by the insurance and they will have to pay the full cost of the repair. Their insurance if purchased on the 23th wouldn't take effect until the 30th. Chromebook Charger (Power Cord)
We have a few reports already of students losing their chargers and requesting new ones. The replacement cost for a new charger is $30. Students must return their Chromebook with its associated charger, each with matching, district-issued barcodes. Failure to do so with result in a $30 charge, even if they return a charger with a different (or no) barcode. A fully charged Chromebook should last an entire day, so students should take their chargers home and use them there. The expectation is that a fully charged Chromebook should come to school each morning.
Parents please review the dress code with your child. I have attached it for your convenience. We have seen students wearing jeans with rips, tears or holes, shirts without sleeves and yoga pants that are too tight (without a long shirt being worn). /userfiles/922/my files/wcms dress code 2017.pdf?id=10592
7th Grade Immunization Requirements!
Attention All 7th Grade Parents/Guardians: All students in the 7th grade are required to show proof of receiving the Tdap and Meningicoccal (MCV4) vaccines. Please see the attached letter and form to be completed by your child’s physician. If you have any questions, please contact the health clinic at 947-7403. Please note the correct attendance line for WCMS. It is 947-7404. Please add this number to your contact list for convenience when you need it. Did you know that you can shoot a quick email to attendance to let us know that your child will be late, sick, or needs to be picked up early on any given day instead of calling the attendance line? WC Fun Run
The West Clermont Education Foundation will be holding a fun run that will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the West Clermont High School Track Field. Registration is only $5.00 prior to September 20th and includes t-shirt! See the attachment for more information on this exciting community event. PTO Alternative Fundraiser
The WCMS PTO is now having their alternative fundraiser! Parents in the past have told us that they would much rather give a donation to the PTO and let the PTO receive 100% of the funds rather than sell/buy items that they really don’t want (candles, cookie dough, etc.) and the PTO only receive 40% of the money! Students interested in Art club need to fill out an application, have it signed by a parent or guardian and turn it into Mrs. Nicoloff. Only 40 members will be chosen on a first come first serve basis. Art club meets on Friday afternoons, twice a month. Applications are available in the office.

WCMS Student Council elections will soon be taking place! Student council is composed of students with school spirit who are willing to help with school activities and service projects. Student council builds character and helps develop leadership, confidence, responsibility, organization and teamwork. All of this takes time and energy. There will be times when students need to stay after school. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting the first and third Tuesday of every month from 2:20 to 3:15pm. The first student council meeting will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in Room #211. This permission slip gives your approval for your child to run for student council, serve if elected, and attend meetings after school. Questions? Boys & Girls Club
Boys and Girls begins September 25th. Applications are due into the office. Space is limited.
Homework Help Club
Homework Help Club is also starting September 25th as well on Monday through Thursday each week after school until 3:15. This club is for students who need help with homework assignments.

Show Choir auditions are Thursday September 21st in the Choir Room – Room 133. Students must be prepared for both the singing and dancing portion of the audition. Parents must sign the permission slip in order for the student to audition. These permission slips are in the main offices and the choir room. See the attached flyer for more information on Show Choir and how students should prepare for the audition.

Open to 6th grade students, Green Paws is an after-school club that allows students to have hand on experiences with plants. Activities include, guest speakers, possible field trips to the conservatory, zoo, arboretum and walks around school groups. In addition, projects may include working on plants for all 6th grade classrooms and the courtyards.
Green Paws will meet every Tuesday from 2:15-3:15. Meetings will be held in room 161. Please bring clothing that can get dirty.

Every school day after school 215-300, October-January Room 143. Students will be excited and eager to learn how to build and program a robot to compete in this year’s competition. Students are expected to show up to every meeting, on time, and working the entire time. There will be 2 middle school teams for the 2017-2018 year with up to 8 people on each team. We need builders, programmers, secretaries, and photographers. Please fill out an application and recommendation forms and return to Mrs. Edler. Robotics Team will meet every school day after school from 2:15-3:00. This team will run from October-January. Meetings will be held in room 143.
Yearbook Club – Lauren Krehbiel Krehbiel_l@westcler.org
Yearbook is a great way to meet new friends and express oneself creatively, and each student's contribution to the yearbook can be seen come to fruition when the yearbook arrives in May. After being trained in how to use the Lifetouch Yearbook Online Design Program, students are partnered up and given the opportunity to design a yearbook spread that they can work on both at our monthly meetings or at home. In addition to designing pages, throughout the course of the year students also help-out with various other yearbook-related tasks including selling yearbooks, photography, working on promotions, and eventually yearbook distribution. There is a place for everyone on the yearbook staff, whether one is interested in designing, writing, photography. Although editors are usually eighth graders, students of all grade levels are encouraged to join and given a role in designing the yearbook and helping to make it successful! Yearbook will meet on the second and third Tuesday of every month from 2:15-3:15. Meetings will be held in room 127 in the North Building. The first meeting will be on October 10th.

The Defend a Friend (DaF) Club is a student-led group focusing on engaging students to become UPstanders at West Clermont Middle School and in their community. DaF members work to create a positive school environment. Weekly meetings focus on developing different activities to promote positivity such as UPstanders Rally, bullying prevention activities, positive post-it notes on each locker, No Name-Calling Week and Random Acts of Kindness Week. Each meeting students are given a chance to discuss how school is going, their struggles and their triumphs, from the week. All members are supportive of each other, work together and develop leadership skills. Defend a Friend will meet Tuesdays after school from 2:15-3:15.Meetings will be held in the Learning Lab.

Students applied and were chosen to be student ambassadors last Spring. 6th graders may apply sometime this year! A Student Ambassador at West Clermont Middle School is someone that will represent our school positively and help build community within our school. Student Ambassadors are asked to provide new students with an introduction to West Clermont by giving them a tour of the school, helping them with their locker, introducing them to their teachers and providing them with a familiar face on their team. Student Ambassadors will meet once a month during advisory bell on Thursdays. Specific meeting dates will be announced ahead of time.

Every Monday from 2:05-3:10; Participants will learn about creating positive relationships, building self-esteem, and becoming a positive role model through physical activity. Participants can walk or run and enjoy making new friends along the way. Girls Running Club will be held every Monday from 2:15-3:10. The current location is to be determined. The first meeting will be held September 25th.

Every other Thursday, first meeting September 28th 2:30-3:20 Drama Club strives to develop poise, confidence, and teamwork within our members each day. Whether on the stage or behind the scenes, drama club will teach students about acting, play production, and stage work through bi-weekly meetings leading up to an end of the year production! Drama Club will meet every other Thursday from 2:30-3:20. Meetings will be held in room 210. The first meeting will take place on September 28th.

This year, Cherry Grove Lanes will be hosting Bowling Club again. It’s a great way for students to have fun and learn an activity in a safe and supervised area. The league will run every Thursday for 10 weeks. Transportation will be provided from school to the bowling alley. The cost is $95.00.
