Student will also have the opportunity to wear red on Thursday, October 25th. Schoology Tips for Parents

With the quarter nearing its end, there’s a lot on the plate of teachers, students, and parents everywhere. We wanted to share with you some useful tips for using Schoology.

All of these settings can be found under the parent’s profile in the upper right-hand corner of Schoology by clicking on their account name, “Settings," and then “Notifications."

First, parents can enable digest emails called “Email Summaries” that can be received on a daily or weekly basis. These emails constantly update parents on how their child is doing in all their courses. Here’s more information about how parents can turn this setting on: http://bit.ly/schoologynotifiacations

Second, parents can also receive an “Overdue Submission” email anytime their children turns in something late. That can be found in the same area as the weekly digest setting.

Finally, we encourage parents to double-check which email address is associated with their Schoology account. They can always add in an alternate email or change any of the email addresses currently associated with their parent account in settings. Here’s more information on that: http://bit.ly/schoologysettings

WCMS Hope Squad

In January 2019, WCMS is excited to launch the program Hope Squad! Hope Squad is a school-based, peer-to-peer, suicide prevention program for students with a three-year curriculum that emphasizes suicide prevention fundamentals, self-care and anti-bullying. Hope Squad members are students nominated by their peers for being concerned about others, good listeners and easy to talk with, and someone they could turn to if they needed a friend. Hope Squad members are trained in suicide-warning signs and how to act upon those warnings. They are not asked to act as a counselor, but rather are trained to refer student peers to a trusted adult for help. The nomination process will occur October 3rd, and nominated students will be notified the week of October 8th. Nominated students and their parents will attend an orientation to fully understand the role and expectation of Hope Squad Members and their families. If you have any questions, please reach out to the WCMS Lead Hope Squad Advisor, 7th grade counselor Victoria Bolig at bolig_v@westcler.org. If you would like to research more about Hope Squad, please visit www.hopesquad.com or www.grantushope.org  We encourage you to watch this video on Teen Suicide Prevention, as it is powerful to realize how needed a program like Hope Squad is:
