District Wellness Policy
Healthy eating and activity patterns are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being.
West Clermont Local School District adopted a district-wide Wellness Policy in May 2006. The policy's regulations will be implemented during the 2006-2007 school year.
The Wellness Policy suggests healthy food alternatives to provide for children during classroom parties and for classroom snacks. For example, instead of candy or cupcakes, classroom parties can include foods that are delicious, nutritious and special, such as orange slurpies, fruit and veggy trays, yogurt parfaits, fruit salad, fruit pizza, mini pizzas on English muffins, or mini sandwiches. Healthy classroom snacks should include 6 grams or less of fat per serving, 7 grams or less of sugar, and under 300 mgs. of sodium. Some classroom snack ideas include: fresh fruit or vegetables, dairy products such as low-fat string cheese, grain products such as pretzels or animal crackers, and drinks such as fruit juice, white milk or water.
