Dear GEMS Families,
I just wanted to put your mind at ease regarding this morning’s emergency response to the Glen Este Campus. During student arrival this morning, UTFD was dispatched because of a report of a strong natural gas smell on the Glen Este campus. West Clermont maintenance was also immediately on scene to assist in assessing the situation.
Mr. Walker and I collaborated with UTFD Assistant Chief Auffart and Ed Dyer to ensure student safety on the Glen Este Campus. UTFD tested the air within the building for any signs of natural or unwanted gases and deemed the building safe.
Apparently, there was an increase in pressure outside of the building. In rare events such as these, our gas meter is equipped with a special valve to release these abnormal pressures into the air outside the building. Duke Energy and WC maintenance are collaborating to investigate the situation further and ensure all systems are functioning properly.
Thanks to all those involved in reporting and responding to this situation. All in all, everything worked as it should. A concerned citizen made a good call! UTFD, GE, and WC Staff coordinated efforts with Duke Energy to ensure student safety without hesitation. Rest at ease parents, we are professionals and will always do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of your children first! Have a great day!
