School Picture Retakes

Lifetouch picture retake day is Thursday, November 6

Retakes are for:

  • students who are not satisfied with their original picture
  • students who were absent on picture day
  • new students who were enrolled here after picture day. 

Students must bring their original picture packet with them on November 6. ?Order envelopes are available in the office or from advisory teachers.

Box Top Drive

Bring in those Box Tops!

Please remember to collect and send in your Box Tops with your child to turn in to their advisor.  Our school earns money for the number of Box Tops we send in.  This money is used to stock the Trojan Token store and sponsor other events for students during the school year. Thanks!

Washington DC Trip Meeting

Attention 8th Grade Parents!

Please plan to attend our Washington DC Trip meeting on Monday, October 27, at 7:00 in the PAC. We will discuss cost, itinerary, and expectations for the trip, which is scheduled for April 8-11.

 


Red Ribbon Week

Choose to Be Drug-Free!

Wear red on Friday, October 24th to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.  In addition to the “red out,” GEMS' health and P.E. classes will participate in activities endorsed by the Natural High Organization.  More information can be found at http://naturalhigh.org/

Marco's Pizza-GEMS Advisory Challenge Winner!

Congratulations to Mrs. Bass' 6th grade class, winners of the October Marco's Pizza Advisory Class Challenge!

Thanks to all the families who ordered.  GEMS made $147.00 from this month’s challenge!


Aviation Club Forming

The first Aviation Club meeting is on October 28 in Room 302.  If your child has an interest in aviation, space, or becoming a pilot, they may be interested in joining the Aviation Club.  Mr. Purvis is the Advisor.  Permission slips are available in the office.


2013-2014 Yearbooks Available

We still have a few yearbooks left from last year (2013-2014). These books are hardback and in full color! They cost $20. See Mrs. Morgan in the office if you are interested. 


Club Meeting Schedules

We have many different clubs and activities at GEMS.  Our goal is that every student be involved in at least one after school activity! 

Clubs at GEMS include:

  • Drama Club – meets on Wednesdays beginning November 5th in room 324 with Mr. Hagen
  • Writing Club – meets on Thursdays beginning October 16th in room 313 with Ms. McClanahan
  • Art Club – meets every other Friday beginning October 17th  in room 361 with Ms. Ruf
  • Ski Club – 7th and 8th grade students only; travels to Perfect North Ski Club please email Mrs. Napier (napier_t2@westcler,org) for more details
  • Aviation Club – meets on Tuesdays beginning October 28th in room 302 with Mr. Purvis
  • Wellness Club – meets on Thursdays beginning October 15th in room 323 with Mrs. Devine
  • Kids Care Club – meets every other Friday beginning October 24th in the library with Mrs. Bass, Mrs. Howes, Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Jeffcott & Mrs. Bastin

All clubs meet until 3:00 pm and students must turn in a permission slip to the office in order to participate.  Please see Mrs. Morgan in the front office to get a permission slip!


Stuff the Bus

 

Let's Stuff the Bus!

Please see the attached flyer for the West Clermont Schools' “Stuff the Bus” campaign, October 13-27. Last year GEMS collected more items than any other school in the district. Let's get our SHINE on and stuff that bus again to help needy area families!


Weekly Announcements

Announcements for the Week of October 6th, 2014

  • Free and reduced lunch applications must be renewed every year.  If this applies to your child and you have not completed one for the 2014-15 school year, you child’s services may have ended on September 30th.  Please return your completed forms to the front office as soon as possible.  Students who are potentially affected by the application renewal process were given forms to bring home.  Forms are also available on the West Clermont Schools website and in the GEMS office.
     
  • Seventh and eighth grade girls’ basketball tryouts will be held on October 31 and November 1.  Open gym begins on October 20.  Interested girls should sign up in the office and pick up a schedule of open gym and tryout times.
     
  • We have a few 2013-14 GEMS yearbooks left for sale at $20 each in the front office – first come, first served! 
     
  • October is Bullying Prevention Month. The Defend a Friend Club will be performing “random acts of kindness” throughout the month.  In addition, we will be hosting Mix It Up At Lunch Day on October 28th during all lunches and our annual Upstander’s Rally on October 30th.
     
  • Glen Este lanyards for student IDs are available in the counselor’s office for $2.00 or 15 Trojan Tokens.

West Clermont Medication Policy

It is West Clermont School Policy that no student is to carry medication with them, whether it is prescription or over-the-counter.  Written authorization from the prescribing doctor and parent, on a West Clermont medication form, is required.  All medication must be brought to and picked up from school in the original container by a parent/guardian.  West Clermont medication forms can be found on the West Clermont website or can be picked up in the school office.

Marco's Pizza-GEMS Advisory Challenge!

 

It's time for the Marco’s Pizza-GEMS Advisory Challenge!

October 7th is the first Tuesday in October, and you know what that means: The Advisory teacher with the highest individual total wins a free Pizza Lunch for that class! 

On the first Tuesday of every month, when you order Marco’s Pizza (dine-in, carry-out, or delivery), Glen Este Middle School will receive a kickback of 15% of the order!

Here's how: When ordering, just mention the name of your Advisory teacher. You can even use your existing coupons or take advantage of the Daily Specials. Marco’s will tally the total for all the Advisory teachers and send Glen Este Middle School a check for 15% of that total.

  • Conferences are on Tuesday, September 30, from 4:00-7:30 p.m.  Parents can use http://ptcfast.com/schools/Glen_Este_Middle_School to schedule conferences.
     
  • The Cherry Grove Lanes bowling program begins on Thursday, October 2.  Students will be given the location of the bus to ride to the bowling alley.  If you still would like to register, call Cherry Grove Lanes at 528-7888.
     
  • The first Art Club meeting will be on Friday, October 3, from 2:30-3:30 in the art room.  Students must have a signed permission slip to stay.  Permission slips will be available from Ms. Ruf or in the office this week.

Homework Club

Homework Club starts on Monday, September 22. Teachers will be available at Homework Club to help middle and high school students with their homework.

Where: High school library

When: Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm.

Students can get help with any subject on any club meeting day, but they will have access to specific subject area teachers on the days shown below:


Monday – Math Day
Tuesday – Language Arts Day
Wednesday – Science Day
Thursday – Social Studies Day

Please encourage your child to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!


Purple Pantry

Please help restock the GEMS Purple Pantry with food donations to help our school families in need. Please bring in canned foods such as vegetables, soup, SpaghettiOs, boxed dinners, pre-packaged cups of applesauce and fruits, snacks, Pop-Tarts, and cereal.
