Dr. K's Tip of the Week

Dr. Kobman’s Tip of the Week

When children are being disrespectful, parents must correct them in a respectful way. When parents raise their voices and get upset themselves, disrespectful behavior escalates. Parents model respectful behavior when they speak quietly and calmly, make expectations for behavior clear, and give consequences when necessary.

Respect for right conduct is felt by everybody.

Dr. K's Tip of the Week

Dr. Kobman’s Positive Behavior Support Tip of the Week

Is your child being disrespectful?

Many times we forget that children need to be taught respect. Rude behavior, talking back, and foul language are common. As parents, we must teach our children how to be respectful. One way is for parents to catch disrespect early. If a child is behaving rudely, his/her parent should intervene and remind their son or daughter that “we don’t talk that way to each other.” Modeling pro-social and respectful behavior gives children the opportunity to see what respect looks like and learn to interact with others.
