Week of October 7th
Dear Merwin Families,
We are continuing to talk with our students about the importance of GRIT – or the ability to stick with a challenging task. I love the quote below, because it is a great example of student perseverance that parents see on a daily basis.
The cultural obsession with video games shows us that kids have the capacity to continually try for a goal even in the face of repeated failures… - The Growth Mindset Coach, Annie Brock and Heather Hundley
Most of us have witnessed students playing video games where they continually challenge themselves to reach the next level. How do we help students tap into this same resilience and perseverance at home and at school?
This week look for evidence of grit – not perfection, in your student. Notice it, name it, and praise it!
Happening this week at Merwin:
Cultural Arts Rotation #1 (Oct. 7 – Oct. 23)
This week we will be administering the GALLUP Student Poll to 5th graders. The brief online survey helps educators provide a more positive school culture and measures hope for the future, engagement with school, and other factors that have been shown to drive students' grades, achievement scores, retention and future employment. It is important to us that all students provide feedback on this survey. If you would not like your child to take this survey, please contact our school office.
